Floral Maxi + Rent the Runway

Last weekend, I was able to attend the wedding of my brother’s best friend, who is also like a brother to me to his high school sweetheart. I was so ecstatic that I was able to make the trip home for the wedding and be a part of their special day. Their wedding ceremony and reception took place at an old cotton gin outside of Shreveport for the perfect country rustic theme.

An outdoor wedding in the warm Louisiana sun seemed like the perfect time to finally try out Rent the Runway. Many of my sorority sisters had suggested for some to try it if they were still looking for a dress for formals. One of my roommates in college had used it once for a fraternity formal and my current roommate had used it last year for a Mardi Gras Ball.

I had previously wanted to rent a Lilly Pulitzer dress for a white coat ceremony, but since I am no longer pursuing that degree, there won’t be a need for it. This wedding seemed to be the perfect time to rent the Lilly Pulitzer dress.

Rent the Runway has a huge collection of clothing to choose from and they even have categories of outfits for certain events. While the selection of wedding guest dresses they had picked out was great, none of them would have worked for the casual wedding that I was attending, especially outdoors in 80-90 degree weather.

How the website works is you pick out the dress you would like to order and pick the size you would like to order it in. If you need help to figure out what size you need, read the reviews. A customer who has worn the outfit writes a review and also includes their height, weight, bra size and what kind of figure their body is. This is a great way to review an outfit because you can see how the different dresses work for different body types.

Another positive about Rent the Runway is they encourage you to pick out a back up size for the dress, if one is available and also a back up dress in case none of the sizes of the first dress works out or the dress ends up not working out. In total, you are receiving three dresses for one price.  You also have the choice to rent the dress for either four days or eight days.

While I did end up ordering this Lilly Pulitzer dress, they did not offer my back up size. However, for my back up dress I picked out this Badgley Mischka floral maxi. I received the dresses on the Friday before the Sunday wedding and they came in a hanger bag to reduce the amount of wrinkle from shipping. Unfortunately, the Lilly Pulitzer dress was too short on me. However, my despair was short lasting as soon as I put on the maxi dress.

This dress was perfect in the way that it fit. I ordered the dress one size larger and in the long length. I am 5’8 and it was the perfect length to wear with heels. In fact, the dress was still on the longer side with the heels, which is something that rarely happens for me. It was the most comfortable dress as I wore it to church that morning also, so I ended up being in the dress for almost 12 hours.  I would’ve loved to wear it for longer or even look into purchasing it to keep.

What I love about Rent the Runway is not only does it allow me to have a dress I would only wear once for a specific event, but it also allows me to wear designers I wouldn’t normally be able to afford to wear. Rent the Runway also has a store in Manhattan near Union Square on 16th street between 5th and 6th street, which allows one to rent an outfit at the last minute.

Rent the Runway also has a membership program that allows their members to rent a certain number of clothing items and accessories with the level their membership is. I would suggest to anyone who is needing a dress for any event where you only need the dress for that one night.

Have you ever used Rent the Runway? Let me know what you used it for and your thoughts on it!
